Public Policy Committee


Members: Dr. Courtney Lyder and Dr. George Xakellis (Co-chairs), Dr. Janet Cuddigan, and representatives from Collaborating Organizations & the Corporate Advisory Council.

Mission: Positively affect quality of care issues related to pressure ulcer prevention and management.

Current Goals & Activities:

  1. Collaborate with government agencies (e.g., HCFA) to improve quality of pressure ulcer care.
  2. Collaborate with other organizations to present a unified voice to Congress regarding quality of care issues related to pressure ulcer prevention and management.
  3. Educate NPUAP members regarding public policy issues and strategies.
  4. Disseminate current information regarding the public policy issues affecting wound care.
  5. Collaborate with CDC and the Healthy People 2010 Consortium to collect appropriate baseline data.  Work with the Surgeon General's Office to track progress on the pressure ulcer objective.
  6. Develop position papers on:

        Review of Reverse Staging Issues

        Avoidable vs. Unavoidable Pressure Ulcers

        Challenge 2000: Have we decreased pressure ulcers by 50% by the year 2000?

     

Recent Accomplishments:

    Letter of Response to HCFA regarding the Technology Assessment Center (TEC) report on pressure reducing support surfaces.

    Consultation with HCFA regarding OASIS

    Worked collaboratively with CDC and the Healthy People 2010 Consortium to set a Healthy People 2010 objective related to pressure ulcers.
